I checked, he in fact did play in "the first game of his career."

TSN@tsnofficial.bsky.social

Nick Suzuki’s streak of 546 games played — Going all the way back to 2019 — will come to an end after the Habs announced that he will be out for the next two weeks. It was the second-longest active ironman streak in the NHL.

I am beginning to think that if Alberta can't efficiently run a referendum then maybe they aren't ready to run their own country. It really isn't that difficult.

Curious how negotiating with Russia means buying more stuff and speaking highly of Putin while negotiating with Canada means buying less stuff and insulting every Canadian citizen.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "My decision on Russia is simple... Russia is doing very little, if anything, to help Iran, compared to what they could be doing ... Zelenskyy is using refineries as a target, knowing attacks are seriously hurting ... He could have made better deal 2 years ago. His country is in shambles ..."

Longer term I am open to options that might keep the site going. Everything from an outright sale, opening it up for someone else to operate, or possibly open sourcing my code and database so anyone can host it themselves. Let me know if you might be interested.

To all those that have or continue to support the site, thank-you. I will be cancelling your paid subscriptions but your benefits will continue as long as the site is up and running under my control.

The reason for this is day to day updates is what takes the most work and there hasn't been enough public interest in supporting the site to make it worth my time and effort as I am looking to reduce my workload as I transition into my (semi) retirement years.

The site will continue to operate as most of it (statistics, etc.) gets updated automatically and I'll continue to keep the contract database up to date, just team cap calculations and current rosters will be incorrect/out of date.

The Stanley Cap will for now remain up and running. I just won't be entering daily transactions and roster moves which means the salary cap calculations will no longer be accurate.

Putin could end the Ukraine war and could end support for Iran possibly ending the Iran war but instead of pressuring Putin Trump rewards him by buying Russian gas at elevated prices allowing Putin to continue funding Ukraine war and Iran's disruption of the Strait of Hormuz and the cycle continues.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Wow — listen to these new comments from Trump. Thanking Putin, trashing Zelenskyy, characterizing Russia as eager for peace and Ukraine as intransigent. The mask is totally off.

It's absolutely insane that ~35% of Americans still support this guy let alone the crazy Alberta separatists who seem fully on board with being gobbled up by Trump's United States.

Wait, we are now giving defensemen with 14 games NHL experience 6 years at $7.2M?

Elliotte Friedman (Bot)@notfriedgehnic.bsky.social

Anaheim is extending young D Tristan Luneau 6 x $7.2M AAV Largest contract in NHL history for player with 14 games played. Ducks believe in the player…kept him in AHL all last year after some previous injuries. Think he will be a top 4 D. And, and they’ve learned, take care of your (1/2)

To put this in perspective, Simon Nemec, the #2 overall pick in the same draft as Luneau with 49 points in 152 games got $7.25M for 5 years just 3 months ago.

A better comp is fellow Duck Pavel Mintyukov. Also from the same draft, 10th overall, with 69 points in 204 NHL games got a similar $7.2x5yrs.

Imagine where gas prices would be if Republicans (and Conservatives in Canada) took climate change seriously in 1990's/2000's. Actually you don't need to imagine it. We'd be an electrified economy driving electric cars powered by solar and wind energy and you wouldn't care what the price of gas was.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Rep. Rich McCormick blames OBAMA for high gas prices in the year of our lord 2026

Potentially relevant to Leaf fans today. My analysis of Marchehnko in the summer. He's very good.

David Johnson@hockeyanalysis.com

Fans outside of Columbus probably don't know Kirill Marchenko as well as they should. Marchenko is 25 year old right winger with good size, is a good skater, has a very good shot and improving playmaking skills. www.thestanleycap.com/players/kiri...

Evidence that AI should remain artificial intelligence and not super intelligence. Umm, how in the world does Pierre think this makes him look Prime Ministerial?

Thomas Seal@twseal.bsky.social

Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre just shared this on his Instagram

I realize many American scientists, researchers, doctors and other highly skilled workers are leaving the U.S. for Canada but I'm not sure it amounts to 'millions & millions'. In truth, Trump is trying to rile up Canada's far right ahead of the Alberta referendum to divide Canada. He's desperate.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "Canada is destroying itself by allowing millions & millions into the Country, essentially unchecked & unvetted, & who are causing problems that'll soon be too big to handle. It is a Liberal takeover that will end very badly. Already showing up in their numbers. Big unemployment. ‘Oh Canada!"

Trump's Presidency in summary: We need nothing from Canada. We kidnapped the Venezuelan president and stole their oil so we won't need oil from Canada. We tried the same in Iran and disrupted the global oil/fertilizer supply. We'll get Potash fertilizer from Belarus so we don't need Canada's Potash.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "The United States is working on a massive Deal with respect to the purchase of Potash from Belarus. The pricing would be for substantially less than we are currently paying to Canada, very good news for our Farmers and Ranchers. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

This should not be surprising. The boycotts actually started slowly in Dec '24 before Trump was even President when Trump questioned Canada's ability to exist sans U.S., grew in Jan '25 when he threatened to use 'economic force' to annex Canada and took off when he first imposed tariffs in Feb '25.

Justin Wolfers@justinwolfers.bsky.social

@svaneksmith.bsky.social and I have been doing chart-offs recently. For my challenger this week, I looked at thousands of comments from Canadians on a recent video. The biggest takeaway is that the fight isn't about the trade war. It's about our decaying relationship. https://youtu.be/hDhY8-Cc1jE

Deep down we understand that most Americans don't support this, but we also see that many Americans do while many others dismiss Trump's comments as unserious jokes, or are misled into thinking this is about trade. Canadians don't see it as a joke. The rest of the world doesn't see it as a joke.

I hope the electorate sends Trump and his supporters a massive electoral defeat in November. Not just a blue wave, but a truly massive defeat. One that forces even the spineless Republicans to actively turn on Trump. That would at least send some positive vibes that Trump's America isn't permanent.

The tariffs were a catalyst but the cause of Canada's boycott is Trump's attacks on our sovereignty and that extends to his enablers (spineless Republicans, MAGA, the electorate more generally). For Canadians it is all about sovereignty, our right to exist, our culture and our independent economy.

The great dealmaker announces a deal to secure rights to a military base on Greenland, rights he already had and guarantee rivals will not occupy Greenland which was not a threat to happen. More succinctly, the great dealmaker successfully negotiated a deal to maintain the status quo.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "We will immediately begin the process of developing a large Military presence in the appropriate part of Greenland, of which there are many"

I went to the Quantas website to find fees for Sydney to Brisbane return flight: Passenger Service Charges: 49.66 AUD Safety/Security Charge: 27.10 AUD Total: $76.76 AUD or $76.19 CAD Now for an Air Canada return YYZ to YUL: Security Charge: $18.92 Airport Improvement Fee: $91.19 Total: $110.11

If we just looked at the airport/passenger service fees YYZ/YUL return flight airport fees are 85% higher than Sydney/Brisbane return flight airport fees. Canada's airports are 85% more expensive for passengers. Maybe the current not for profit system is actually inefficient and overly expensive.

Guns/butter have been around a lot longer than AI so it's an odd comparison. If Avi wants new laws/regulations he should consider becoming an MP. AI is an international problem. Would be great if we could coordinate our laws/regulations with partner nations for maximize impact. Maybe with EU?

Avi Lewis@avilewis.ca

Canada has binding regulations on everything from guns to butter. And none for AI. Are we going to trust people like Elon Musk & Sam Altman to regulate themselves? Or is our government going to stop cheerleading & start regulating in the public interest? It’s literally what government is for.

The problem with both the Conservatives and NDP is they are heavy on criticisms and light on suggestions. This is more true for the Conservatives than NDP but Carney is getting so much support from Canadians because he has a bold vision and big plans for Canada. Could use more of that from CPC, NDP.

I bet he starts with The Heard and McDonald Islands. Those pesky penguins better watch out.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump says he will cut off all trade entirely with "some nations" unless the Fed lowers interest rates

Dear Americans: When Republicans, who are running $2 trillion deficits, talk about giving you dividends they are telling you they will steal money from your grand children to put in your left pocket so you don't notice the President and his billionaire cronies stealing money from your right pocket.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

TOM EMMER: Donald Trump was talking about the dividend concept months ago NEWSNATION: Many dividends have been suggested!

Of course the dividend money will never reach your left pocket but you will still have less money in your right pocket while the billionaire class' pockets are overflowing. This basically summarizes current Republican politics. Everything else they say/do is a distraction.

For most Canadians we are several stages beyond wounded and confused. We've been fighting back for 18 months and are now focusing on the future, a future less dependent on the unreliable U.S. Time to stop hoping for the past to return Pierre and get up to speed with current reality.

Also, If you have to say "I won't criticize the PM on foreign soil" you are doing it wrong. The correct way is to just not criticize the PM without signalling you actually really want to. That's how you present Canada as strong and unified to foreign media.

The USA has lost their whey...

Isn't the biggest problem is the President thinks like a fraudster? Now we want all bank managers to as well?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Dr Oz: "If you use AI to get a bank manager to think like a fraudster and do the things they would've done, it actually works. We're now taking a page from that playbook and using it in government ... we shut down half the hospices in Los Angeles. And by the way, they didn't complain!"
