I'm all for a general strike but one day isn't going to move the needle. There won't even be enough people aware that it's even happening.

I would like to add, if one cannot attend due to school, work etc.. wearing a black band around your arm is a show of support.

My problem with the strikes is that they hurt small businesses who are already on the ropes, and they do nothing to the big companies who don't care. Should be a shop-local day imo.

Guys.... The protests have been *amazing* and I really think are moving the needle. And General Strikes are an incredibly potent tool that can build on that momentum. If you can't do it all, that's ok too. Figure out what you can do and do it! Every bit helps.

I truly want to believe in this but doubt it’s success. Americans have been held captive by their employers for far too long to take this step especially if they do not have PTO. I’d much rather see a national march in DC or at each R member of Congress (and Fetterman) homes demanding action.

I believe that protesting at their local offices and DC offices is a great idea. Remember how they were arresting people in wheelchairs during ACA protests? But it was passed!!

I’m sorry, I appreciate the effort, but one day won’t do anything. This needs to be day ONE of eternal General Strikes. Billionaires and corporations won’t even notice one day. Now, if we strike, march with pitchforks into Washington and eliminate billionaires, I’d be up for that.

Right. The question isn't what happens May 1 — it's what's still meeting needs May 2. The general strikes that built lasting power (Winnipeg 1919, Minneapolis 1934) did it because the organizing structures survived the day. That's the gap. Not enthusiasm. Infrastructure.

One day isn't going to change anything. Call me cynical but take a look at other countries. They go in the street till they get what they want. One day? What's that, afraid you'll lose your job, your HEALTHCARE if you take to the streets for days, weeks? Do you have a week of vacation, PTO? Use it!

A one day walkout is not a general strike. Its a start but don't call it a general strike because what we really need is an ACTUAL general strike in the US. Calling a one day walkout a general strike just cheapens the term and makes people think "we tried a general strike and it didnt work".

Yeah, a year and a half too late and then you’re gonna go home after and tell yourself you’ve done something. So why not stay in the street until they invoke the 25th amendment ? And do it again when JD fucks everything up ?
