American Capitalism has worked best when the Government ensures that there are guardrails in place for companies. Unrestrained Capitalism will do whatever it is permitted to increase profits because that is their raision d'être. Even when there are laws they weigh risk vs award on compliance to it.

There should be no privately owned Banks. Look at the success of the state owned bank that North Dakota has had the last 100 yrs. Banks are the goose that lay the golden egg due to fractional reserve. For every $100 you can lend out $1000 as long as you keep 100 on reserve. It fills state coffers.
