Somehow, launching a random soccer game by Konami ends up triggering a special debug mode in the Japanese+ version of Animal Crossing... but, how does this work? Join me as we dive into this neat exploit in a brand new video, now live on my YouTube channel. Hope you enjoy! ⚽️ youtu.be/9-dvmJTm0R0

I watched that video and I can't stop wondering why Doubutsu no mori+ reads that certain reset boot sector? whats the purpose of reading that at bootup in the first place? And why is that register specificly not cleared/written in the first place?

On the N64, there's an entire buffer of RAM called the osAppNMIBuffer that persists on reset. The original Doubutsu no Mori uses this buffer to have its debug state remembered whenever the game crashed or reset while testing. DnM+ tries to mimic this behavior by using the reset code on the GameCube.
