So I started Dedboi and an having a lot of fun with it! However, I was wondering how everyone likes to engage with solo journaling rpgs. As an author, it’s been really fun writing prose based detailing the events that have happened based on my draws and rolls. Is that how everyone likes to play?

Larps did not work for me due to a debilitating body dysphoria. I was too anxious to embody the character. Wish I had known of solo journaling games then. I know there were like mail in games. Anyway, I always loved writing character backgrounds. Even got positive feedback. So this stuff is perfect.

Certain games (like “Thousand Year Old Vampire” or the “Captain’s Log” variant of Star Trek Adventures) lean into the prose element, which can be a boon for the imagination’s eye. I also like GM emulators for games like “Cyberpunk Red” to try out new systems solo.

The half of Knave of Cups who plays solo games keeps a whole-ass AO3 account where playthroughs go when she's done. Every game is insufferably annotated to further-illuminate choices she made/significant locations/specific media she referenced, with pics and external links So, uhh... "yes"

I see why you guys stock so many great solo games now 🧡 I wonder if your other half would be interested in turning their playthroughs into LitRPG...

For us it depends on the game as some encourage you to write as the character. So either we channel the character writing their own journal or write in prose. For Reincarnated as the Unloveable Villainess?! we did a mix of both.
