Fox News graphic claims falsely that the average price of gas one year ago was $4.13, lower than it is right now. It was actually $3.14!

Blatant lies by licensed media corporations and elected officials need to be severely punishable by law. Enough of this. Post-truth is supposed to be a dire warning not a state of being.

Who gets to decide what is a lie? And “media corporations” don’t have licenses. Only over-the-air broadcast stations do.

If a false claim can be proven to be so grossly false it is undeniably a lie then that is a lie and the custodian of information that peddled that lie must be severely punished as a deterrent.

Proven…by who? And who will judge? And what is the necessary context to make it illegal? Oh, and what about the First Amendment or any SCOTUS decisions says (or even implies) that there’s an exclusion for lies?

Proven by measurable objectivity. As in this original post. It is an objective fact that national gas prices were not what is being reported. This can be proven by anyone. The necessary context is any lie pushed as fact to diminish public intelligence and cause harm.

1A is for individuals, not corporations. Additionally, elected officials and other custodians of the public trust should be held to a stricter standard. If they don’t like that they can choose not to participate as those custodians. Fu*k the SCOTUS. What they say today they can change in 10 years.

Is the 1A for groups of individuals? If I enter into a group do I give up my free speech rights? What about the long history of corporations owning newspapers and having freedom of the press?

You’re sitting here arguing in favor of the information-apparatus continuing to spread blatant lies and poisoning the public. Society cannot continue to function this way. Here is my final comment, as clear as I can be: if you or anyone engages in a formal position where you are expected to be a

Custodian of the truth for the benefit of society, clear examples being an elected representative or a news-media corporation, and instead you use that platform to intentionally spread lies, then you should be punished. Just like my second amendment right doesn’t allow me to form my own regulated

Militia so too is the 1A not an absolute freedom in every case to spread lies and chaos. There must be nuance for the greater good, and there already is. I, as an individual, am not allowed to incite riots or scream fire in a movie theater. Therefore, I believe custodians of truth must be held to a

MUCH higher standard and deterring punishments delivered for intentionally harming the public. I will no longer engage in surface-level gotchas or black-and-what what ifs. If I have not made myself clear then re-read this until I have.
