Lets be clear. It isn't a matter of if they are real ICE agents or not. Its the fact that anyone ( citizen or not) has the right to defend themselves against unlawful arrest or detainment by law enforcement. This is outlined in the US Supreme Court decision of Plummer v State of Indiana.

That *is* why they're *required by law* to identify themselves on demand. With a badge and credentials. If they refuse, then you may safely assume they are not officers or agents of the law or any department or agency of the government - local, state, or federal.

There have been reports last week of masked men claiming to be ICE agents (who actually were not). These phony ICE agents in at least two cases illegally abducted women off the street and then raped the women.
