There isn't a proper "Hell" in Judaism, which I think is an extremely positive feature of the religion. But also, man do I spend a lot of time these days thinking "I wish hell existed"

Hell as a thing that actually literally exists was invented embarrassingly late in Christianity for how widespread it is. Orthodox and Coptic Christianity still don't officially believe in it and there's no official word on weather paradise is a place or just a vague "close to God" as far as I know.

I agree as someone who isn't sure about there being anything at all, I find it terrible that so many lives have been ruined or lost due to terrible and greedy people. No comeuppance for those who committed, and worse there may be no peace for those who were victim after. It's such an injustice.

I think Judaism not having hell is very much a good thing. As any kind of eternal punishment it's a slippery slope on who people will claim it's for. On the very justifiable other hand: Fuck that guy.

"Torment" seems to have originally referred to the experience of continued existence without contact with God's grace: if Heaven is completely lit by grace, Earth is penumbral; hell is totally dark. Hell is cursing the light while aching for its warmth.
