after he first fights an enemy that's tanky and actually hits hard, he spends the entire rest of the game referring to the weaker enemies as "zako," a Japanese insult that became arcade slang for essentially "goomba" - a completely filler enemy in almost all circumstances

I do also think that I, as a person who buys video games with my own money, need capital R Reviews to clearly tell me the mechanical and functional quality of the thing. Do you think at a certain point we should distinguish the roles of the editorial vs the review?

I guess I just don't think that's particularly necessary or interesting in a modern gaming landscape. Pre-release coverage and social media will tell you on day 0 if the game works. But, more importantly, that's a couple of sentences maybe in a larger critical piece.

I mean, I was going to buy Wolverine until I read that it’s repetitive, lacks meaningful progression, and lacks challenge. Onimusha got my buy because even tho reviews told me that it’s repetitive, it checked the other two boxes I was looking for. IGN’s review *was* more editorial tho and I liked it

theguardian.comRevealed: How Substack makes money from hosting Nazi newslettersExclusive: Site takes a cut of subscriptions to content that promotes far-right ideology, white supremacy and antisemitism

I've been a fan of the pod for a while now and you and Peter's work holds great value for me—but that's exactly why I feel I *have* to ask. Have you considered hosting your personal writing on a different platform? If not migrate outright just yet, would you consider mirroring your posts elsewhere?

as a reader, I would rather not have to give substack any more traffic, ever. as *your* reader, I would love to support your paid work, but I refuse to do so if it would mean that any small amount of the money went directly into substack's pockets.

this sounds corny and it's not just a number go up to inflate my ego thing if you put your email in and add yourself to my blog's audience it literally gives me more opportunities than i would have otherwise. it is a free and material way to support my independence in this space.
