Oh! That’s fun. In 2026, second-place Ottawa mayoral candidate Jeff Leiper received more than twice as many votes as PM Mark Carney received in the 2025 federal election.

I will note that Carney got more votes in the 2025 Liberal leadership vote (131,674) than Leiper did last night, but slightly less than Sutcliffe's vote total.

It’s not a trap. Nor a misunderstanding. But it does recognize how regional support bases do matter. And puts context around how various levels government have a multiplayer sausage making game to play. It’s a non trivial amount of support.
