On Jespersen’s show she contradicted herself within 5 minutes 1. Only 2 orders of government are recognized in the constitution. Municipalities are creations and extensions of the provinces. So provinces are responsible for municipalities.

When later asked about infrastructure budget challenges of municipalities… 2. Municipalities have their own governments and are responsible for their own budgets and infrastructure. The province would only get involved if there’s a problem.

She wants to have it both ways: leave the municipalities to struggle with their own issues, but reserve for herself the role of the rescuer, swooping in when the cities go astray. But her fundamental disregard for the democratic legitimacy of local government is stark and dangerous.

Municipalities have urban planning experts, career professionals that aren't just caught up in ideology or sound bites. To pretend that Dan Williams knows the intricacies of city planning is yet another major screw up from the UCP.
