Exciting to see new, independent projects spin up to decentralize the atproto ecosystem! Building alternative infrastructure is a big step towards giving users more choice and making the network billionaire-proof.

Big news! There's a new project that's raising cash to build out AT Protocol infrastructure that isn't dependent on venture-funded Bluesky, to stimulate the development of new social networks using that infrastructure, and to make the protocol's governance more democratic fortune.com/2025/01/13/m...

My problem is this, years ago many social media sites offered the same exact product and thousands of “Who wants to be the Next Napster” flooded to Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit… while of course MySpace, Hi-5, and AOL all went “south” and for years we have been stuck with those “new apps”.

Some of these groups need to fund better designers for Mastodon. A lot of social media users are not terribly skilled with tech - you leave out a good chunk of users if you don't make it easy to navigate. Many users do not want to have to spend a lot of time curating their feed.

Sorry, but I don't understand how it can be decentralized if we are all on the same server. How can this even work? Yes, there are all kinds of block lists. But you do the development, right? What prevents you from going crazy like that Elon at any moment?

As a new user, thank you for Blue Sky. Please remember and never underestimate the responsibility you have not to become greedy. A fair and balanced platform is vital right now for so many people who put their trust in you.
