The Utah Supreme Court is forcing Utah Republican lawmakers to comply with an anti-gerrymandering law that voters passed in 2018. In a wild coincidence, Utah Republican Governor Spencer Cox is suddenly VERY enthusiastic about adding justices to the Utah Supreme Court

I’d honestly respect him more if he was just like, “Look, even if I wanted to veto this bill, both chambers are gonna override it immediately, so I’m just getting out ahead of this, okay”

After 30 years of living here under an R supermajority, with R Gov's, I'm skeptical on the daily. Thanks for elevating this. You wouldn't believe the sh*t we've had to deal with here. More than half the voters (that means LDS voters, too) approved Prop 4, 7 years ago now. #utpol

What's happening in Utah keeps happening in Republican-controlled states across the country: Republican lawmakers respond to court decisions that interfere even the tiniest bit with their policy agenda by punishing those courts to ensure that they never have to deal with the incovenience again

This is why Dems should be wiling to immediately unpack SCOTUS in 2029. The GOP already packed SCOTUS, the AZ court, now the UT court, etc. Rs consider changing the size of the courts to be a legitimate move, so we should use it to our benefit instead of just letting them do it to our detriment.
