The crowd for @marcmaron.bsky.social doesn't look anything like the crowd coming in for Tommy at Playhouse Square tonight, those people are well put together. I guess I'm at the rock show.
After starting to listen to @500songspodcast.bsky.social podcast late last year, I'm please to announce I'm up to date on the main episodes. Which is not the same thing as caught up. There's so much more material. Thanks @andrewhickey.500songs.com !!

This ‘plan’ for data centers is written by someone who thinks Ohio voters are idiots.
Ohio governor candidates outline their data center plans. @megankhenry.bsky.social @ohiocapitaljournal.com: bit.ly/4fUZdO3 Protect people, not billionaire profits. Vote for a governor pledging to protect clean air, fresh water and pristine state parks and public lands. @indivcentraloh.bsky.social

Summer of Ludd, lol, love it
The Summer of Ludd is a weeklong series of talks and activities like how to flirt and date offline, mending, and learning to fight against data centers, all focused on getting people off their phones and into community. The rules? Be present, and absolutely no phones, recording, or photos allowed.

Trump is a counter-revolutionary. It's not his or Maga's day. Own this 4th. Celebrate it. Cookout with friends. Do what Tom says. Shit, read the Declaration. Be inspired.
The Fourth belongs to all of us. Don't let Trump take that from you. Watch John Adams on HBO. Watch 1776. And remember: You are the heir to that revolution as much as any other American.

Two defendants who received 50 years each, Savanna Batten and Elizabeth Soto, were never accused of helping plan the demonstration here. They arrived separately, left the protest when guards asked them to, and were not accused of any act of violence talkingpointsmemo.com/news/prairie...
getting rid of the social security cap on wages is sensible and needed. Expected from Elizabeth Warren. Good on you Bernie Moreno (R-OH). www.nytimes.com/2026/06/23/o...

the breakdown of miles driven in that chart is around 85% personal, 15% commercial. It very literally says people continued to drive more miles through April, well into the higher gas prices. Everyone is complaining about the cost but it isn't impacting behavior at all. Not yet. It has in the past.
I don't have any special knowledge about this subject. However, your graph does not address individual consumption patterns and does not imply people are driving more. It might be true but your data does not show that.
this wouldn't help with the blowback but I've been on the planet for 7 of the decades on that chart and economically I wouldn't want to go back to any of them.
Here’s the problem with saying things like “1998 was the best year”: the economy has grown over time. This sounds like a pointless truism but it’s not. Wealth has all-but-monotonically increased for decades in the US. We don’t notice because of hedonic creep. But we’d certainly notice going back.
Early women pioneers of climbing such as Lucy Walker, the first woman to summit the notorious Matterhorn mountain in 1871 all wore skirts on their climbs..... #WomensArt
Tony Levin turns 80 today! I saw him and the other Stickmen a few weeks ago and thinking back it occurred to me that I've seen him more often than any other performer. Happy birthday Tony!! #LetsThrakAgain www.stickmenband.com

Trump tried a June 2025 move in June 2026; turns out that doesn't work quite so well when gas is $4 and your approval rating is hovering around 35%. Would have been nice if some of our much-vaunted institutions showed a little spine earlier though
there was a period when Chef John (foodwishes.com) was doing just slightly elevated classic mid-century foods. They have the benefit of not being out of a can or delivered in a frozen tray, which is a lot of what makes them elevated. These are terrific sloppy joes! www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzUq...

New, and I think important piece. Brainstorming policy ideas to address kitchen table issues is an important undertaking. But it is NOT the same thing as a Project 2025 analog, but for the pro-democracy movement to save the country. www.offmessage.net/p/project-20...

giving Qobuz a try. Not importing anything because I want a fresh persona. Hopefully it won't figure out I'm a 60 something white guy and gently but insistently suggest I'd be more comfortable listening to Bob Seger
🧵Are you still on Spotify, despite knowing that they've run ICE ads &/or that they pay artists scandalously little? I was too, despite knowing the latter for years, bc I couldn't begin to figure out how & where to move. Then the ads happened & I finally snapped & figured it out. Here's what I did:

Our research says lower-wage workers' pay went further before the pandemic. When accounting for rising prices, paychecks grew more from 2015–2019 than they did during or after the pandemic. This Research [in] Brief breaks the data down: https://clefed.org/4ur2UQm

"Given the Trump White House gutted most of the US’s experienced diplomatic service, and killed many of Iran’s top officials, it seems like the talks have been negotiated like a game of telephone, with middlemen telling those involved what they’d like to hear, instead of what was actually said."
