This is why "Vote Blue, no matter who" is harmful advice... Because regardless of whom you elect, they will never represent marginalized people, especially in this era of "centrist chasing". Advocate and vote for/run as a Nonpartisan candidate who leans more left than the Democrats.

It's not just Andrews: 45 of the SC legislature's 47 Dems have an anti-trans voting record. - 11 voted for a sports ban (9 abstained) - 19 voted for a bathroom ban (6 abs.) - 30 voted for a prison GAC ban (14 abs.) - 3 voted for a youth GAC ban (6 abs.) South Carolina Dems have ALL abandoned us.

I don't actually think this is centrist chasing. There are actually similar figures for Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi, especially. In MS for example, only 4 Dems opposed 2025 HB 188, which allows cis women in prisons to sue if they see a trans person in a bathroom.

The one thing these states all have in common that the vast majority of the Democratic base is African-American, and in the South, they tend to be more religious and socially conservative. In fact, support for same-sex marriage is actually lower among black Americans than any other demographic.

All of that is to say, in these states, Democrats are anti-trans positions because there's truly just no pressure from the base to not be; if anything, there's actually pressure in the opposite direction. Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't allies—because there are!—but they're much rarer.
