this and alienating people that want to be or feel associated with certain things... it's akin to popularity lists in "the other place" "This is a list for people who specialise/work in X" person checks list, doesn't seem themselves, invokes feels (not looking to be included on any btw 💀)

Here’s my main gripe with starter packs: I keep seeing new ones with the same people.

p.s not saying get rid of them but there are ways to word things inclusively "list of people involved in/working on", "people I follow for X" will always be better than "these are the experts in X", "this is a list of the best people for" jus' think about your actions

p.p.s didn't come here for a popularity contest, vanity metrics, circles, subjective lists, being the loudest in the room etc. ideally want to get away from that that likely means if you bang on about vanity metrics, etc. you're probably already gone i'm afraid 💀

Certainly not a solution to the bigger problem, but as a small bandaid I've been keeping an eye out for lesser known web folks (on Bluesky) who are doing cool things and just made a starter pack for them: bsky.app/profile/hawk...

Since a lot of web-focused starter packs have the same folks listed again and again, I've been keeping an eye out for cool web people who are less well known in the community. Take a peek if you've been looking for some fresh faces/voices to follow here on Bluesky! go.bsky.app/4Q1wdiB

That's a good critique, but also I'm amused at seeing this from someone I almost certainly followed through one of the starter packs I finally got around to hitting the last week or three :)
