also, can't stress enough that shit like wolverine having not an iota of respect for its audience has absolutely fuck all to do with "fidelity", stop throwing artists under the bus just because their type of art happens to coincidentally please you the least. blame the person who fucks up

I think vehk does a good job identifying the likely culprit in the final bit here: attracting and maintaining the attention of thise who seldom interact with single player games. It's almost like live-service psychology shoehorned in. It's also a twenty hour game, for fuck's sake. Whyyyyy

These are all overtired elements that soften bad world and gameplay design, and ensure players that (sorry, I don't know how to word this without being an elitist) seldom interact with single player games keep getting drip fed rewards, and don't get frustrated.

I don't agree, I think this stuff is completely unconnected with the audience, any audience. It is giving them too much credit to think they're just targeting a different market

wolverine is literally not even a game with a high density of detail. look at it. it's clean. they were not doing this shit to address visual legibility concerns (or at least not real ones)

i know we all feel a bit smarter when we shift blame from what would be the obvious recipient onto some other fuckin thing because it's "more complicated than that" but sometimes it's not that deep. the bad decision is a bad decision for the obvious reasons. the available alternatives were better

as much as it is the attribute of a healthy, happy game developer to hate the audience, at no point has any gamer ever clamoured for this sort of thing and the buck stops with the developer. this only has anything to do with the audience in that that's who is being insulted by it

This feels like it’s the result of a developer too concerned with executives at Sony pulling funding unless they meet every single QA complaint the Sony execs are made aware of
