Do you prefer option A, option B, or having both A+B options for creating annotations in Svelte?

You can probably do both. The latter is better to guarantee consistent output.

If it is string only, I wouldn't event allow a children and only pass a value prop

A is more versatile without sacrificing DX, easy pick imo But if you can, both are good!

As I've said before, still prefer both being an option

Option 2, definitely.

It does, however, prevent you from putting it on something other than a span... Will have to think.

In theory we could provide a prop to set the element type

What about a solution like bit ui's child snippet?
