Any #InternetNZ members who haven't already voted in the current board elections: VOTE! It is critical that you do. This is a thread of some useful recommendations a friend put together on how to think about your vote as well as a link to my suggested rankings. bsky.app/profile/jpda...

Now that we are in #InternetNZ board elections period I have a minor update: My updated #INZReckons - preferred rankings as of 28/07/2026: 1 Bianca Grizhar 2 Daniel Spector 3 Nabil Sabio Azadi 4 Annette Culpan 5 Keoni Mahelona 6 David Chisholm No Jan Rivers No Douglas Brown No Jillaine Heather

Three recommended rules: 1) Number every box you can 2) Worst last beats left off 3) Never stop early Personally I think leaving candidates unranked who you find abhorrent is fine. BUT - if there are any who are bad, but less bad, you want to rank them at the end of your list. #InternetNZ

Your vote is a messenger. Basically your vote will go to your first choice until they're knocked out. If your first choice is knocked out then it goes to your second choice, and so on. #InternetNZ

Where spare votes go when your favourite wins big. Basically if your choice wins with more votes than they need, a proportion of your vote will pass down to your next ranked choice. #InternetNZ

Three ways to fill in the same ballot. In our Single Transferable Vote system the more candidates you're able to rank the less likely it is that your vote could be wasted. Even if you're down to the bad options, if you have thoughts about which are "least bad" you should rank them. #InternetNZ

Voting as a team: three futures. We're better off ranking all of the good picks. Votes will flow through as candidates are knocked out they will automatically consolidate to the top pick. Voting for just your absolute favourites risks your vote being wasted if they are knocked out. #InternetNZ

The proof: what stopping early costs you. In the 2025 #InternetNZ board election 1/3 of all votes cast were exhausted (had no say) in who was elected to the second board seat.

So... are those "No" lists okay? I did laugh a bit at this one as it seemed a bit targeted at me... 😂 But yes, leaving those who you find the worst off your list is fine. Just realise that if those candidates are the last ones standing you'll have no say in which one wins. #InternetNZ
