I’m not saying Amazon was ever a shining light of employment, but I genuinely enjoyed my role for the first 2.5 years during remote work before RTO and layoffs I worked with some great people I’d work with again and some horrible people I’m happy to never see again

Big cloud providers bring a lot of baggage you probably don't want. - Amazon's management - Microsoft's security - Google's deprecation policies Not to mention all the AI and US politics The future of the Internet is much more...distributed (I hope) bsky.app/profile/haze...

If I had to guess, I’d guess this is the beginning of the death of public clouds. We’ll still *have* public clouds, but current clouds are synonymous with: - internationally trusted - runs public, critical, and consumer infrastructure intermixed - wholly immune to market and customer influence

There’s a click bait article going around that AWS replaced 40% of its devops people with AI before the outage and it’s completely made up and here’s how I know

AWS doesn’t have a devops title. Who would they have laid off? They claim the AI tools they used are terraform, Kubernetes, a cloud billing tool, and an alert monitoring tool If you know anything about AWS’s internal tooling you know that’s complete nonsense
