A fisherman told me, “We caught a weird looking spiny lobster,” so I went to check it out… And there it was, a Ornate spiny lobster, just sitting there in all its glory!!!!

it must be really old. are there no protections to put older and very young back into the sea like maine does it so the population will stay constant or are they abundant?

There are some clueless people who don’t even follow me saying “let it go,” but this individual was later donated to an aquarium and is being carefully kept to study its breeding ecology. Honestly, the crowd on Twitter is still better than this.

It can be a bit of a “scold” community but I think far more of the accounts here are real people, instead of bots. And a lot of us enjoy your pictures and marine science.

The Discover feed loves to serve up completely innocuous posts (especially with photo or video) to shut-ins whose only hobbies are "assuming the worst of everything" and "insulting random people online"
