My company develops for Apple's ecosystem, and a lot of my colleagues get excited for new product announcements and watch them live. I tease them about it. It's always "the fastest/best" iteration of a product introduced a decade or more ago. Their products are still very good, but not innovative.

unsurprisingly curious how Tim Cook's ENTHUSIASTIC coddling of global authoritarians was either downplayed or missing from this last week's tech press goodbye party

I have been in such frustrated despair over Apple's enshittification that I was actually _hopeful_ that Trump's bonkers tariffs would hurt its hardware production. And that this would force the company to focus on software and customer service improvements. Because the software situation is _bad_.

The very bright path is them not being able to roll out an AI of their own, and going all fox with the grapes. Just like when "privacy" meant that the features of their maps were light years behind Google's, so you might as well rebrand it as a feature. And FWIW even microsoft transitioned to arm.

Cook is very much, the toady. An example showing...that coming from modest means, having an ever-present 'minority' label affixed to him...did not guide his decision making for the betterment of democracy or humanity.

You would think this example, a company created around new technology and enthusiasm with the product or services they would provide to humanity while legitmately rewarding themselves only to appoint the usual CEO parasite to "take the company into the next stage" (profit for CEO) was clear by now.

I know it’s a useless exercise, but as a more powerful asshole, would Jobs have handled this better yah think or would he have caved all the same but in his own way?

I think Jobs would've just not cared. He made it pretty clear that his ideology was him and apple above all else and others. He likely wouldn't have kowtowed to trump, but he probably wouldn't have tried to stop trumpisim either unless it hurt apple directly.

Nuance and all that! 😂 As someone who younger in life was a self proclaimed Apple Fanboy, I’ve since matured. I’d place less emphasis on dull hardware than their relentless squeeze on the services side. Their services side makes it MUCH clearer that they’re no Different™️ than the rest.

He was indeed quite a brilliant CEO. But agree the correct technical name for what Apple became, by Cook's careful calxulatioi, is ... Boring

Boring has a lot going for it. Hence the unparalleled success. During its prior rocky years, even when Jobs wasn't there, Apple was always striving for radically new things. 1/

These aren’t rich people like Google’s and Apple’s CEOs are not spineless. Their interests are in line with these oligarchs. So of course they are going to do what the Epstein Class does. It benefits them too. They are all horrible people. And until we start admitting they are rotten…
