the most moderate, apolitical and non-controversial opinion in Elon Musk is that everything he sells is too good to be true, and will either fall apart and be expensive to fix, or will be clawed back and resold to you for more money

BREAKING: A federal judge has ordered President Trump to sit for a deposition in his $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC or risk the case getting dismissed, according to the AP.

I remember when Musk bought Twitter for agitprop purposes how even people on here insisted I was "overthinking it" and "it's not like he's playing 4D chess" as if billionaires hijacking media for propaganda takes any brains and hasn't been happening for centuries

another one I heard a lot (and just did again) is that musk couldn't possibly have wanted to leverage twitter for agitprop purposes because he at one point he belatedly realized he was wildly overpaying for it which still makes no sense to me

also I intimately know how telecom policy in this corrupt ass country works and the chances of any incarnation of this government usefully nationalizing Starlink is on par with me winning the egot not that galloway actually supports it anyway

Fascinating that as even as other Republicans who long ago sold their souls to MAGA still have enough baseline political acumen to see how poisonous this is, Vance is completely oblivious. It isn't just that he has no principles, decency, or moral compass, he's also really fucking bad at politics.

Elon Musk has already declared war on Democrats and begun fighting it on several fronts. This fight is happening, whether or not some centrists want it. There's no real choice now but to make a clear case in the election and then go hard after him when they retake Congress.

not that I don't think they're capable, but Democrats coming to power and immediately holding oligarchs and corporate power meaningfully accountable is a big assumption

not that I don't think they're capable, but Democrats coming to power and immediately holding oligarchs and corporate power meaningfully accountable is a big assumption

I think if we're talking a Gavin Newsom or Mark Kelly President most of the rhetoric will be about "turning the corner" and "building a better tomorrow." They might restore science grants and prosecute people for boat murders, but fully holding rich assholes accountable isn't really their thing

I'm very much in a "I have to see it to believe it" phase when it comes to both trusting the U.S. electorate, and trusting that the Democrats will have learned any sort of concrete lesson on unchecked corporate power and oligarch-backed fascism

the 1949 FCC "broadcast news distortion" rule Carr is threatening to abuse is supposed to be used in clear instances of something like a politician bribing a news outlet to twist coverage it is, you may be surprised to learn, not applicable just because polls show the president is a corrupt loser

Kevin Collier @kevincollier.bsky.social

In any other admin, this would probably be the most outrageous official statement ever made by a sitting FCC director: Strongly implying that the government forbids broadcast networks from reporting on the president's falling poll numbers. (Sorry to paste from twitter but that's where he posts.)

I spent 25 years listening to Republican and libertarian think tanks warn that the FCC shouldn't have any real authority to protect consumers because it might be abused a quarter century later, and the biggest threat we've ever seen is a regulatory captured corrupt Republican lickspittle

Carr loves the press coverage that makes it seem like he's an important guy doing important and scary stuff but he's just a yipping chihuahua and the censorship saber rattling obscures the damage he's done to consumer protection and media consolidation (which the press couldn't care less about)

I’m not surprised when credulous normies believe Elon Musk‘s constant lies. No, what astounds me is when Media professionals, despite being burned repeatedly by this lying cretin, breathlessly promote his every new deception, continually eroding their own credibility. Just like they do with Trump.

Rubio again seems to confirm that Musk unilaterally throttled Ukraine's Starlink access (because he likes authoritarians)

The Wall Street Journal scoop also seems to indicate that it's possible Musk did this unilaterally, and then had his SpaceX lawyers try to smooth over obvious blowback great country definitely not just grotesquely corrupt

something important imo that isn't mentioned in the Reuters piece is the fact that, in response to the NAACP suing xAI, Trump's DOJ is trying to *take over the lawsuit as plaintiff* and "voluntarily dismiss" the case ballsandstrikes.org/law-politics...

I think it will be very cathartic when his empire collapses and I am dedicated to living to see it

This has been the fundamental mechanism through which political media operates my entire life. The right makes a bunch of noise about a fake scandal, the mainstream media "covers the controversy," & normie voters get the vague impression that Dems are constantly involved in scandal.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

This awful saga is a good glimpse into how MAGA gets propaganda laundered into mainstream discourse by making just enough noise to get news outlets to treat their outrage as a "controversy," which then requires even-handed treatement of both sides' stances: newrepublic.com/article/2168...
