that entire jacob coxon AI doomsday newscycle was like some late-night food poisoning fever dream, just a hot and clammy mess propped up by an extraction class press that long ago gave up on actually trying to inform anybody

what's really telling to me is how little the press really wanted to deal with the deeper context of stuff like authoritarianism, corruption, climate change, or the dismantling of our regulators, which are all essential if you're going to have a serious adult conversation about AI policy

instead we were all treated to this very strange and highly collaborative game of fabulist fiction, where the press actively "informed" the public that our software has gone fully sentient, is now recursively self-improving, and is a few weeks out from nuking the eastern seaboard on a lark
