this is great. The NYT responses are pathetic (especially to criticism of calling Karoline Leavitt "fierce and nimble" in a subheadline without mentioning she's a propagandist and serial liar) establishment media ownership seeks out and hires people who'll coddle and defend ownership ideology

🧵🧵🧵 The NY Times posted a 15-minute video today in which I got to tell NYT what’s wrong with its coverage. They said they saw my critical posts on Bluesky and invited me to do a video with them to air my grievances. Weird, right? I didn’t hold back. I blasted their sanewashing of MAGA extremism.

If you're brutally honest about Republicans and fascists you'll lose access to sources, alienate advertisers, potentially risk total subscribership, and make (usually white rich male ownership) mad, so as a result you get this sort of formless, mushy, journalistic simulacrum that normalizes fascism

this is then normalized through conditioning over decades by the hiring of a particular type of person and a firing of most of the people who speak truth to power, all while critics get defensive lectures about how everything is fine and ownership interests are perfectly firewalled from editorial

Unclear whether NYTs considers Leavitt a liar in her own right. She’s apparently just repeating admin lies bc it’s her job, don’t you know. ”No foul”—umpires of the NYTs

Healy is the face of every mediocre person who's moved from "doing" the work into "management" of those doing the work. Milquetoast bothsiderism, diluted non-conviction, barely concealed apathy, reeking of desperation for every1 to "stop rocking the boat" so he can keep climbing the ladder.

What a wild false equivalence when Healey says they can do excellent, in-depth, vital reporting OR they can accurately describe Trump and his administration. Also the failure to acknowledge that Trump is operating well outside politics-as-usual and reporting on him through that lens is malpractice.
