I was thinking about this earlier. All this gushing over a cute lil guy means nothing if we aren't also supporting differently abled humans. Or are we just fetishizing the raccoon?

Something that has bothered me is the description of Jimothy as a cryptid. My reaction has been that he is a raccoon and clearly a part of his community. It feels too late for the Jimothy discourse(ugh) to shift focus to an examination of disability within a community, but I can hope.

things like "hey instead of putting effort into painting a mural about a raccoon w/ a spinal abnormality, why not put those hours into helping drive disabled neighbors to appointments?" is somehow me being a buzzkill only engaging w/ disability when it's fun for you is not allyship, it's extraction

adult humans have generally figured out there are things we need to do that aren't fun: dentist appointments, paying the electric bill, etc it's disappointing that that understanding has not yet extended to "survival is a shared burden" and greater support + inclusion of disabled people in society

(also the truth is that actually a lot of disabled people are still fun and funny as hell, it just looks different than what you're used to)
