It never ceases to amaze me how many times I look up the background of a famous writer, comedian, artist or actor and think "Maybe this one will be different and come from an ordinary background?" then find out "Nope, yet another one from Oxford or Cambridge university and a private school".

For a long time, my background (UK provincial, no A-levels or degree, parents from council estates), which is outside the norm for an author, made me view myself as an imposter underling employee of agents and publishers.
