#aerosols #How This is avoidable. Aerosols Now. It is evident to anyone paying attention that even today's ~1.5° C warming is catastrophic, and we have no pathway below this for centuries - even if we do everything right. The loss of insects, the birds, and the kelp forests - we've crossed.

Our top priority should be to bring the planet back into energy balance, the only way to do that quickly is by injecting small amounts of aerosols into the upper atmosphere. Aerosols are not a replacement for decarbonization - but they can buy us time to do the work.

Meanwhile, the two largest carbon sources in energy: land transport and generation are both on a glide path to decarbonize as EVs and renewables are simply better and cheaper than fossil alternatives. Decarbonization will continue regardless of aerosols.
