With #Halloween coming up, let’s all remember the “Trick-Or-Treat Test!” “Kids know when a neighborhood is good for getting candy because there's a lot of doors near each other…I call it door density.” “Halloween reveals a lot about good neighborhood design every day.” My @npr.org interview:

npr.orgDoes your neighborhood have good urban design? Employ the 'trick-or-treat test'Asma Khalid speaks with Brent Toderian, former chief planner for Vancouver, Canada, about the "trick-or-treat test," which encourages residents to think about good neighborhood design on Halloween.

No, it's not okay to use that word. Yes, I know the White House communications director used it. That doesn't make it okay. If anything, that's a red flag.

Does the heart good. OneBC, named for an overly-optimistic seat projection.

I've reported a lot on OneBC and Dallas Brodie, the party that did its best to promote residential school denialism and attack Indigenous rights in this province. Tonight she lost her riding of Vancouver-Quilchena about as hard as you can lose.

Sure I’m upset with the BC NDP for calling this election and other things. But I understand order of magnitude. My frustration with them isn’t within the same galaxy as my concern with handing a blank check of power to an extremist BC Conservative Party that hasn’t even picked their REAL leader yet.

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

So BC, one of MANY problems with voting for an interim leader who you’re thinking seems “more reasonable” than the rest of their obviously extremist party, is that the extremist party WILL pick a REAL leader AFTER you’ve given them power and can pick their worst extremist option anytime they want.

From @electionsbc: You're entitled to "a four-hour period free from work during voting hours. Time off may be at the beginning or end of an employee’s shift, or unnecessary if normal working hours already provide enough time free from work to vote."

Don’t let them tell you it’s suffering that makes for the best art. It’s spite. Always has been.

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

Seriously, congratulations and deep thanks to everyone who worked so hard to turn back a genuine threat to our country. You rock, Alberta. ❤️

The BC Conservatives kept their platform under wraps until just days before the election... and now we know why. It's a sham. They've cooked their own books. #BCLab #BCPoli #BCElection

I’m appealing to Albertans to vote tomorrow to deprive this ghoulish jackass and the cynical hacks who’ve enabled him of even the faintest sense of satisfaction.

On eve of Alberta referendum vote, separatist leader alleges ‘cover up’ in deadly CFB Wainwright tragedy Alberta separatist leader Jeffrey Rath makes unsubstantiated claims that ‘DEI programs’ and ‘gender fluid’ soldiers may be to blame in CFB Wainwright tragedy

No matter what else happens tonight, civil society in BC is the healthier for Kamloops' overwhelming rejection of soon-to-be-ex-Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson. #BCPoli

I picture it like Vaal from Star Trek's "The Apple."

First time I experienced electronic voting here, I thought it would mean instantaneous results. I didn't realize how much manual cross-checking and reconciling the humans have to do before handing off the results to what I assume is a giant robot maw.

My country, 'tis of thee Land of proctology

Lincoln: “This nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom” Kennedy: “Ask not what your country can do for you” Reagan: “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” Trump: "I examined his ass"

Put it this way: you don't hide your leader away from media the day after an election debate that went *well.*

A post by a political official attacking Muslims and calling for the expulsion of anyone supporting their religion? That should be immediate grounds for firing BC Conservative campaign director Katy Merrifield. #BCPoli #BCLab

The Conservatives have bought ads to tell us Lorne Doerkson has "been here the whole time." Good for him. Too bad he wasn't here for working people. #BCPoli #BCLab #BCElxn

This is a Goebbels call to violence. This is the rhetoric that preceded the Rwandan genocide. I know politics involves compromises, sometimes painful ones. But I will never understand the "moderate" Republicans who think anything could be worth the moral price they have to pay to support this man.

Trump is desperately trying to incite a riot before the election so he can declare an emergency

"IT SHOULD BE A SIMPLE FUCKING SETTING!" "You're right, Rob. I can see that's really frustrating you." "I CLICK THE GODDAMN THING ACCIDENTALLY ALL THE TIME!" "That must really be annoying." "I WILL LITERALLY NEVER CLICK ON IT DELIBERATELY!" "Hey, why don't we take a break and go for a walk?"

Now that we have AI on the case, I have some hope that — within our lifetimes, and with enough processing power — forms on websites will be able to parse a phone number with or without hyphens.
