In a new preprint w/ @tianqizhan.bsky.social & @smfleming.bsky.social, we developed a new measure of metacognitive bias (over/under confidence in individual decisions)! doi.org/10.31234/osf...

Next, we wanted to test whether this measure is reliable within participants over time. Thanks to a new longitudinal dataset collected by @tianqizhan.bsky.social, we found that different versions of our measure are highly reliable even after periods as long as one month!
All of this work was done using my new R package hmetad, which implements this measure in a neat & accessible interface! metacoglab.github.io/hmetad/

Overall, we found that past research on metacognitive bias is subject to pretty severe confounding, but our new measure provides an unbiased alternative under appropriate assumptions. We are currently looking into whether this changes well-known results in the field, so stay tuned!
