I had a spectacular solar eclipse /after/ sunset today. Hard to photograph, so let me explain. My holiday plans put me coincidentally in the path of the total eclipse today but slightly off too far to the east Mediterranean. Before sunset, we would see a >90% eclipse which was impressive by itself.

But what happened next was deeply humbling. Sunset was 20:25 and totality 7 minutes later 20:32. So it was getting dark and I realized I was in the /exact/ spot where the moon shadow left Earth. You could see a massive dark stretch of atmosphere which was the totality shadow.

In just two/three minutes you could see the shadow of the moon flying above our heads in the sky and then it started to get brighter again even though sun was already set behind the horizon.
