I feel like those elements are put in place for show more than practical. If you look at the bike infrastructure outside of the downtown core, it's quite terrible. Compared to say Munich. It's available everywhere. Expand that to everywhere that the S/U-Bahn's go to with bike garage's and storage

Maybe the size of the city plays a role in the ranking? Because if you look at French cities, Grenoble should be higher than Paris, both for share of trips, or for infrastructure, and biking culture.

Even second tier Chinese cities have full lane width bike lanes. It was once known as the bicycle kingdom. They’ve slipped a little 2000-2015, but have refocused on micromobility in the last five years and have the fundamental underpinnings as cities were designed around cycling mobility.

30 per cent of all trips in Beijing are by bike! And that's down from 2/3rds in 2000 (they fell even lower than 30 and are rebounding rn as cycling has become a prestige signal in younger generations).

A dumb list. To anyone who is part of cycling culture in a city in Australia, in Brazil, in any part of South America, in the US or Mexico, in India, in China, Japan! for crying out loud ... this list is just a fuck you statement.

Yes I forgot to mention any city in Africa. Because of my latent racism as a white American, my bad, I apologize. Cairo! Nairobi! I think they have bicycles! But this is a ridiculous euro-centric, possibly racist list that only focuses on similarity to a Netherlands-style of transport.

As many have commented … the methods behind this survey are likely very suspect - but I like the energy with which y’all are defending and critiquing the bike infrastructure in these cities

For those curious about cycling in Vancouver - this is my ride downtown tonight (to go to a planning talk) … and then again because I forgot my AirPods at the venue. Anyway. Did the ride twice tonight (and found the AirPods!)

Complete with the sound of my squealing brakes Anyway - I enjoy blasting past the cars stuck in traffic. I wouldn’t have done this trip twice if driving / parking

I rode a bike in Antwerp last week and I can tell you that Vancouver's infrastructure is much worse. I don't know what we're doing in the top 30. Did the judges ride to a bunch of destinations along the Arbutus greenway and call it quits?
