This is my central criticism of this generation of planners; they assume single detached housing is a benign/sacred baseline and everything and everyone else who wants to share that space must be prepared to make an offering for the privilege.

LB complaining about multiplexes - “There’s no affordability” “there should be affordability requirements” %^*! That This is so gross. You’re fine with a single family house being $6m, creating wholly privatized wealth, but a 4 plex should have “affordability covenants” It’s so infuriating!

They (ie the subset of practitioners I’m annoyed with) assume Arterial Densification is justified on this basis, and all density must “taper” to this.

“Every seat on the plane should ideally be first class. If you want to fit smaller economy-class seats into the plane you need to pay an extra density fee because you might inconvenience the existing first class passengers”

Continuing to flog the analogy: "Economy seats are naturally more affordable, and also generate more total revenue for the airline ...but first class passengers think they are paying for everything because their individual ticket is more expensive than a single economy ticket"
