Those people will wake up when all trees are gone and their lanscape turned to yellow-brown barrens. Then without agriculture and scarce food, they might realize. It will be too late.

Remember Churchill's famous speech "We shall lose on the beaches, we shall lose on the landing grounds, we shall lose in the fields and in the streets, we shall lose in the hills; we shall just embrace a Mediterranean lifestyle"

What a devastating stupidity. The richest (we) are ara able to cope with the destruction of a livable earth the longest (but think of all the wildfires now). There are billions that are not so lucky. The next generations will curse us.

Now at stage 3. 1. nothing is going to happen. 2. something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it. 3. maybe we should do something about it, but there's nothing we *can* do. 4. there was something we could have done, but it's too late now. www.quotes.net/show-quote/1...

The Dutch newspapers make similar arguments. "Europe only accounts for 6% of global emissions ... China ... Blah blah". Quite a centrist article acknowledging that parts of Europe could be unliveable. Still not able to grasp the emergency properly. Wouldn't want everyone to change their lifestyles.

Volkskrant commentaar.
