They were hunted to extinction. The human caused 6th mass extinction started over 10 thousand years ago and is accelerating faster and faster.

So, apparently the genetic diversity and the presence of structure is not a remedy for the extinction. At least for endemics on islands. 🧪⚒️ #Geology #Paleobio #EvoBio

This graph doesn't show that (necessarily). To interpret it we'd need to read the paper to see how the normalisation has been done. Typically you get normalistion within sample, so width of bands doesn't represent the number of animals, but how dominant they at a particular site at a time point.

It's the combination of overwhelming scientific evidence that shows the ongoing human caused mass extinction, which started with the extinction of most species megafauna around the world.

Humans caused the 1st mass extinction (QME) 100,000y ago with fire & spears. When we settled, we caused the current and last mass extinction with overpopulation & livestock. Acceleration post-WWII aka peace and global trade. We destroyed most self-sustaining ecosystems (CO2 & Water pump) in a blink.

Indeed: We need smaller human populations that eat plants based asap if we wanted to survive. 2.5 bn plant based humans would be sustainable and do not risk human extinction. #Wildlife

Carbon sinks are collapsing due to this. Burning fossil fuels bought us time to end all deforestation (population growth and meat). Now we have to end both but protecting primary production is ALWAYS primary for life by definition. iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...

We have destroyed most life support systems and wildlife on Earth for: - Overpopulation - Eating enslaved, inbred and tortured animals - Burning living plants for energy (67% of forestry) #NTHE
