Thank you for your posts and pictures, they are always a welcome palate cleanser. Question (and I apologise if it is unwelcome): I've never had a cat, but I'm considering getting one. Is there a resource you'd recommend with info on the lines of "This is what having a cat is like"?

I ask this because I really want to avoid being That Guy who adopts a cat but ends up bringing it back to the shelter a month later because they realise they loved the idea of a cat more than an actual living animal. Does that make sense?

It does make sense! Hopefully the shelter you adopt from is good at explaining what to expect, or you can talk to friends who own cats. I bet searching "First time cat owner" should bring up some thoughts as well!

Is Chessie named after a railroad mascot?

A lot of people have asked! But no, a coworker at the shelter named her "Chester" and it was later shortened to "Chessie." It's also what I used to call the Cheshire Cat so I had no complaints. 🙂
