"I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby...)" On Aug 25, 1991, a 21-year-old student shared his side project to a Usenet newsgroup. 35 years later, Linux powers the global cloud, space exploration, and billions of devices. Happy 35th Birthday, Linux! 🐧✨ bit.ly/4gkst16 #Linux35

1991: "Just a hobby, won't be big and professional." Today: Powering billions of pocket computers worldwide. Never underestimate what starts out as "just a hobby." #justahobby #linux #android

Once installed, Linux runs until the hardware ages and falls apart. I have an ancient laptop that still runs I once had a USB stick that seemed bricked. Windows couldn't solve it, Mac OS X couldn't either. Linux just asked me if I wanted to erase all the hidden files. Then it just worked fine again.

I mean, it's one of, if the most, likely reason people got into coding & not being afraid of terminals, always fearing not having back-ups of data (😏) & truthfully a host of other awesome stuff Ppl wanting to switch is a good thing, but it's annoyingly frustrating they don't want to help make it

I love to use linux on my personal machine but I have extremely limited coding experience. I'd contribute if I was better at it lol. I'll just settle for bug reporting I think.

Honestly still very fair For me it's mostly about the community expecting features that can't be made w/o that coding being done, let alone those parts being maintained w/o their help I'm basically stuck in the same boat until I get more going on that A gui for the terminal would stop ppl not moving

There is a point to be made though, that feature requests only mean something when there is a user base to use said features, so maybe having more non-coders start using linux won't be such a bad thing. It will probably attract more people who would have ignored desktop linux otherwise.

Dude that's awesome! Genuinely cool, I kinda want to go back to disks I like having layers on disks though for more storage b/c, sadly, these days the brute force simple code approach has gone away for just transistors & architecture will do it Which, now that computers are that expensive we need 😮‍💨
