Do the Mandelbrot set next!

I had a friend at college who won a competition in the 80s to get some time on a supercomputer to plot part of the set. Unfortunately, he didn't realize that there's nothing much beyond x=1, and the first few runs just produced blank screens.

Also, 80s! That's right on the edge of it being "discovered". Super neat.

It was in 1980, I think. I remember plotting it using Gem basic on an Amstrad PC1512 in 1988. I also got to see Benoit Mandelbrot give a lecture in the mathematics department in Cambridge in the early 90s.

That's awesome! I wonder how this play date is going to handle the set. The resolution is only 400x240 so that's a plus, but that's still 96k points 😬 My grandfather did some Mandelbrot at work in the 80s-90s. I'm trying to get my hands on his old code but it might be lost to time 😔

Is that for emotional connection (I can understand that)? There are plenty of tutorials online on how to code a Mandelbrot set plotter. Do you only have two pixel colors? The colors of the set is normally generated from the number of iterations of the recursive equation at a given point.
