Just watched project hail mary! Really delightful movie all things considered. Unfortunately it tickles my pet peeve of making first contact be completely human-centric when the struggle should be both sided... It drives me nuts to see that again, especially in a movie this good n lovely!!!

Movie's biggest flaw is making the humans the main character. But again that's mostly a personal beef against media where humans interact with aliens more than anything. Go watch it if you're interested in a one sided struggle for communication, it does it greatly and it has very touching moments!!!

you should definitely check out the audibook if you can, it still keeps grace as a pov character but it goes LEAPS ahead on rockys pov and mindspace, them just talking and discussing stuff culture and theory is a huge part of it, the movie kinda 'dog-ifies' rocky a bunch to make him more likeable

I do think- book or movie - it's interesting how Rocky's species was made to be so audio-dependent, partially to justify him being able to learn English and communicate with Grace. The idea of Grace being the one to learn Eridian was never on the table, at least not in the time available.
