feeling disillusioned towards gamedev, especially since the universal modder thing. people say that humans/artists will still be valued in an era of ai-slop, but if there is any audience i trust the least, it is gamers. tired of seeing opinions of bitter, entitled, and anti-art people ₍˄·͈༝·͈˄₎

Is extensively modding games on the same level as making ai art though? As far as I understand ai was mostly used to help with decompiling, and after that modders had to do the rest themselves, or am I wrong?

the "universal-modder" is a particular tool that stitches different games together using their decomps. any of the videos you see of it (e.g. minecraft in elden ring) are almost entirely "vibe-coded" by throwing an AI at both codebases and asking it to make sense of it

Ah I see, I thought it was just the decompiling :/ I so often wish we could just go back to a world where ai doesn't exist at all

to add to this discussion, it's usually not "real" gameplay, and instead gameplay from one game pasted over the other. It's essentially like green screening batman out of arkham asylum and putting him on your screen in minecraft. bit fancier than that but still.

I feel like these have to be insane style over substance projects , like multiple people are talking about them but no one is playing them because the idea of playing Minecraft in elden ring isn't actually that novel
