Oh lol, I misunderstood this dialog at first, so there's actually *no option* to not make your nationality & age public?โ€ฆ ๐Ÿซ

3/5 Keep your real name private and still be a verified human. W Social receives your real name only if you choose to share it, and your birth year and nationality, never your exact birthdate. Your profile only shows an age range. All users agree to what is shared publicly during verification.

Totally. I'm shocked by the implementation of their verification. On a personal level, I'm not even sure what's the use of showing a person's nationality or approx. age. It's not as if it would change the way I'd interact with them. Ouf.

Yeah, I think this is the core issue. In their defense, a careful look at the icons you circled would *suggest* that the 1st option is a superset of the 2nd. But the verbiage indicates that the 1st mean only name is public, not nat/YOB. The UI now seems to mention all three, per their 10/13 post.

Anyway, Twitter in 2021 said that a lot of the toxicity during the Euros that year was coming from people with real names. Research already shows that pseudonymous accounts tend to be less toxic. (I guess because they're more careful about how they present themselves online)
