Someone pointed out dark mode didn't work on my website (a huge oversight!). Claude implemented dark mode in <10 mins. But the diagrams in my latest post still looked weird since I designed them on light backgrounds. But they're SVGs so it was easy to prompt a bit more and get dark/light versions

Filed under "yet more things I would *never* have time to do myself but can delegate to agents in under 30 seconds" Everyone gets a better experience. The world is slightly less shitty.

I’ve been slogging through all my old posts adding dark mode. The hodge podge of canvas, SVG, DOM, and hard coded colours has not made it easy 😅 I really didn’t have a clue what I was doing at first.

Oh yeah I have a ton of older diagrams and visuals that I'll need to sort through if I want this on the whole site. Or... setup a ralph wiggum claude loop with tight instructions to fix 😅

also, big fan! I revisit your digital garden all the time. Your kind of content will thrive in a post-ai world, IMO. Curated, well thought out, well designed stuff that plows through the slop.

re: your diagrams. Are you having any luck coaxing AI to build UI, diagrams, etc in a style you like? You have an impressive eye for design, flow, art fundamentals (jealous!).. but how are you coaxing the AI into what you want. TLDR: How is your AI driven design going?

Sadly no progress getting agents to help at all with diagrams. They just don't have the fundamental understanding of direction, space, graphic shapes, etc. to be useful. Had to do all mine by hands. For UI stuff I have a tight set of rules / an existing design system for them to work off

But honestly even within an existing design system I still find using agents for visual design extremely painful. Trying to be like "make the spacing nicer" or "add a subtle shadow" always ends up with awful results. End up old school hand-coding values because it's 10x faster

when bootstrap, tailwind, etc first came out, the forward-thinkers were predicting that everything would look the same in the future. i think that's even more true with AI generated UIs. maybe it's time to bring back the crazy UIs. (i.e. winamp skins). great chat.. thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your reply.. I'm kind of thankful that design and hand-coding still matters. Also, your "why you have an ipad and still can't draw" is soooo me. hahaha. Have a good rest of your day.

Thank you! The DarkReader extension didn't do justice to your site.
