Having introduced the aldol, here is a #ChemEd #Chemistry #ChemSky summary of the more common named variants. They're all the same reaction (just the electrophile/nucleophile changes; see reply). The mechanism is the same. Don't let the names mislead you. Hopefully it is useful to some.
