Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

My main frustration is many of the bikers in my community often treat local laws and regulations as 'suggestions' or ignore them completely, as if the act of choosing healthier, environmentally conscious transportation puts you on a pedestal and affords you the right to be an asshole.

Local laws were made for cars, and obeying the rules as a cyclist makes everyone less safe. Do you really want me and 9 other cyclists stopping at a stop sign and proceed one at a time? It's safer (though illegal) for us to slow down and proceed through an intersection together when there is a gap.

If you're the car directly behind my group, you want to wait ten cycles at a 4-way stop? Should we each clip out and put a foot down before we proceed? Are you joking? This is the sort of thing that gets cyclists run over by road ragers, and makes nobody safer.
