And I wonder if @sofasound.bsky.social ever reads reviews?

Sending my latest substack post to @stuartmaconie.bsky.social, who put together a fantastic prom last weekend, which features large in this round-up of six excellent concerts I had the privilege if attending over the last fortnight. markbraund.substack.com/p/in-praise-...

I was at Folk by the Oak on Sunday but left early, before BCNR headlined, to watch the World Cup Final. An awful game, so clearly a mistake. I last saw them at Green Man in 2024, where I found their performance baffling (I was a very early fan), so am glad to hear they are back on a roll.

They've taken a while to find their feet since losing their lead singer a few years ago, but they've really grown in confidence lately. I'm not entirely sure why I like them so much: compositional complexity and fearlessness in performance? Like someone else we know. Yes, wasn't the final dreadful?

I saw one of the Bush Hall comeback gigs which I really enjoyed, so the subsequent Green Man performance (about 9 months later I think) was a real disappointment. But they are obviously making a go at it and their popularity is clearly increasing. And, yes, I think there is a crossover to PH.
