🧵Here is how you can tell how your neighborhood ranks. Installing the 4th fiber optic network - solid disposable income. Low disposable income, no fiber optic network. Rich? Already have 100Gb fiber network, connection boxes in public right of way outside neighborhood, this would never happen

The neighborhood was built with a lumen/Centurylink now AT&T fiber network which terminates at every house. Then Comcast/Xfinity came alongside and ran new fiber at the back of the house. This time it's Ting. We also have intrepid Fiber who lease to T-Mobile.

Other countries treat it for what it is, infrastructure build it and unbundle the last 100ft and let companies buy in bulk like T-Mobile does, creates low overhead competition.

I REALLY hope Ting isn't funded by the Biden Infrastructure bill, otherwise it's just more corporate socialism. Ting is currently owned by Tucows Inc. - I guess I'll watch to see if they sell it, likely to Verizon.

It's the American way, over provision everything as it's solidly tax deductible and many go bankrupt having taken the profit. Then the majors step in and buy the assets for pennies on the dollar. The final phase is they squeeze the consumers on price and we end up with no choice. /Ends

Always the same. Run up the bills, take the money, leave everyone else to pick up the tab. In steps &bigco. To buy up the assets. bsky.app/profile/carl...
