Welp. I have no interest in ever supporting my alma mater again. Fucking hell.

But I am sure that trump will stick to the spirit of the agreement, like in the...hold on, getting a note. To shreds you say? Well surely in some of the....I see. And he stops when they.... To shreds you say?

Embarrassing. Plus a really poor read of the room. Trump's arrow is pointing way, way down at this stage. Harvard understood the dynamics. Will play out just like the law firm saga. Some will look weak and unreliable, others courageous with an eye on the long term

Yes. I made the same decision with regard to Columbia. I truly do not understand why these once-great institutions are caving to the nonsensical demands of a petty tyrant. Appeasement never works, and often has disastrous consequences.

I will cry if mine (Harvard) ever capitulates. I feel like the pushback/threat to pull state funds from Newsom here in CA provides some good counter incentives for UCs (especially my son’s alma mater UCLA which seems to be getting the worst threats) not to fold.

If the next Democratic presidential candidate doesn't promise to refund these extorted funds, I hope every university sues to recover what has effectively been stolen from them. I'm not sure how well that would work, but I want them to do SOMETHING.

What Cornell signed is a less onerous agreement than previous ones - @fishkin.bsky.social has an interesting take. But still shameful to sign.

But basically this agreement reads to me like one where the administration recognizes they are losing and are desperate to sign any deal to notch a win. Many of the most dangerous elements from the Columbia and Brown deals (and the proposed deals with Harvard and UCLA) are missing from this one.
