I'm quote-posting because I don't want to spoil the puzzle, but I do want to talk about it as there's some lovely mathematics - especially in the "what changes make tgis work" part. So here's your chance to have a go beforehand, or to mute this thread. I'll post my thoughts below shortly.

Ash, Blur, The Cure and Daft Punk decide to go on tour. They play 4 different venues, Aberdeen, Belfast, Cardiff and Dorking. Each night they rotate their venues, so Ash play in Aberdeen the first night and Belfast the next and so on... Daft Punk start in Dorking then go to Aberdeen and so on...

Aaagh! I wrote out my thoughts in a long multi-post thread, went off the app to get a link, and my thread vanished! I'm going to have to write it as a blog post.

Let's call the singers A to D and the locations 1 to 4. You're free to choose where to start, so whatever you see in the first night, you may assume it's A1. Next day you can't go to 2 because A will be there, so either 3 or 4. 13 means 1A and 3B so next day u can't go to 4 because B will be there

So it must be 1324, but in the fourth day A plays in 4 contradiction. So you must start 14, that is 1A and 4C. Next you can't go to 3 because A is playing there, so you must go 1423. But the same band will play in consecutive days at 2 and 3 so this also fails. Hence no solution.
