What have I learned from The Practice? It was the wrong loop. The best loop for content marketing actually simple: publish all the time. You can see this clearly on my charts. Basically every spike is a new article (or an old one hitting on a particularly zeitgeist-y moment)

And at its heart this is the "problem" with SPC and causal modeling your business: Clearly expressing obvious answers to questions like "how do we improve X" is somewhat verboten in most businesses I've worked in.

As such, data teams are often reduced to ad-hoc "make work" instead of The Practice. It is very obvious to me that I should publish more. I simple don't want to do it. (the irony here is perhaps by saying this aloud I _may_ do it)

*So far As in, you’ve learnt The Practice drives the needle, not tweets, but that’s what you’ve learnt so far. There may be other things — you just have to come up with the right things to look at ;)

correct! the heuristic of "just ship" imo is actually a proxy for experimentation, but its hard for us to say that so we reduce it to "just ship". its a damn good heuristic. *sigh* i should ship more

Ok, longer example of what finding controllable levers might look like: bsky.app/profile/cedr...

Maybe one intuitive one: - Commoncog can be modelled like a Substack: people read, sign up for the free newsletter, stick around for awhile and then purchase a membership after reading the free newsletter for a bit. But how true is this? And what data would you use to find out?
