New Yorkers experience the abundant contributions of our Eastern European neighbors every day. As we pair syrniki with sour cream in Brighton Beach, look in wonder at a Chagall painting at MoMA and banter with babushkas in Rego Park.

From new immigrants to those who've lived here for generations, Eastern Europeans have built New York City. We owe them a city they can afford to call home.

But you just couldn't bring yourself to celebrate the Israeli Day Parade with Jewish New Yorkers or the Columbus Day Parade with Italian American New Yorkers. Less slicing and dicing NYers by your political views, and more standing with your constituents please

Why in the world would one celebrate that genocidal state that was born through ethnic cleansing, murder, and destruction, and is perpetuated via apartheid, genocide, and more murder?

I have no problem with my Jewish neighbours. I have people of the Jewish faith in my family. I wasn't talking about Jewish people, but Israel. Many Jews are against Israel, Zionism, and its genocide. Your attempt to conflate the two is inane and is doing real harm to Jewish people across the globe.

As @bluelion70.bsky.social notes, an extreme right politician was there. The Israel Day Parade is always open to any Israeli politician who wants to show up, and didn't draw a line forbidding extreme right politicians. The only good options were not going, or going and yelling at Smotrich on camera.
